Let me tell you my story, what I'm thankful for and what got me here.  When I was 25, just ten years after my type 1 diabetes diagnosis, I woke up and noticed floaters in both eyes.  This is literally like seeing blobs of blood.   I immediately saw an Ophthalmologist and was diagnosed with Diabetic Retinopathy (damaged blood vessels of the eyes). 

Thankfully, I received the laser surgery treatment to repair my weak leaking blood vessels, and prevent the possibility of future blindness. Ten years of out of control blood glucose levels, led me to this complication from diabetes. This was my wake-up call…facing that I may go blind if my blood sugars didn’t improve.  I quickly got on board with a plan to better manage my disease. and began 5-key steps to strengthen my daily habits. 

Re-framing my eating habits was the most important step.  Soon I had better blood sugar control and thankfully, my eye vessels had stabilized.

Following these consistent habits, my daughter Sarah was born in 1996, improved blood sugar control resulted in a healthy pregnancy.
